Slate floor Description

We have Vermont Slate Flooring (gauged slate tile) on our floor about 30 years. We put a finish of polyethylene on it. How do we strip it?  As you know the slate is not flat but uneven. What is the best "tool" to use to strip this uneven surface and (http://maplered.com) what should we use for stripping? Also we have a room of the slate flooring without th e polyethylene just normal wear. Would we use the same to clean this? Thank you for your help.
